Emergency Essentials/BePrepared

In my crafty mood today, I made a cube out of some fabric and batting. I love to sew anyway, and it was fun to make something for my baby!

Freedom and Babies

I finally finished my first semester of nursing school on Tuesday after my last final. Hallelujah! I now get to enjoy some much needed free time for almost a month. I get to do dishes, clean my bathrooms, and vacuum! Those are things I haven't been able to do much of during school, and strangely enough I missed them.... a little. I'm also going to do some sewing, which I love. Oh, and don't forget shoveling the snow that keeps coming! I did really well on all my finals and in my classes so I'm happy about that. Today we got to go to the doctor to see our baby again and to make sure he's still a boy. I hate peeing in a cup, it's so gross and hard for girls to do. Well our little baby was being very obnoxious today and moving around so we didn't ever get a great shot of him. I guess he didn't like being pushed on with the ultrasound transducer. I sure don't like it either, it's a bit uncomfortable. But...he's still a boy! And I wish I could feel him move so I knew he was still ok in there!

Baby Under Construction

So, if you haven't already heard, Jacob and I are expecting a baby. Everyone seems pretty excited about it, especially my grandma and brother in law. I'm 11 weeks along, which is almost 3 months if you count each 4 weeks as a month. We have a picture of the baby already as well as a DVD of the ultrasound where you can see and hear the baby's heartbeat! I've been super sick from it and the tiredness has hit this week. At this point, I think I only want 1 kid, but I'm sure it will get better. I'm not really showing yet but my mom has already bought me maternity clothes which I love to wear. Speaking of not showing...my pants don't seem to want to fit anymore because the only place I seem to be growing is right where the waist band of my pants is. I actually took a picture of my belly tonight and it seems really big already (I'm pretty sure it's just because I feel really bloated though). We love you all!

It's been a month or so since I've posted but I've been pretty busy. We oriented at Davis Hospital for our OB clinicals and I am SO FREAKING EXCITED! I have to wait clear til November for them to start but I can't wait. I sure hope I get to see a delivery, even though I've seen 2 before. It's so awesome and watching it on a tv doesn't compare.

Saturday, September 5, 2009

Well....I've survived my first 2 weeks of nursing school! And that's about all I'm doing is surviving. I don't have much time to clean my house or do much at all besides study. It's going to be a long 2 years. On a more interesting note, in lab on Friday we had to practice finding apical pulses. That's where the apex of your heart is and so you're supposed to be able to feel it and hear it really well. Basically, most of the girl's apical pulses were somewhere in their boobs. So we had a fun lab period feeling each other up so we could pass off apical pulses. There was one guy there, poor him, who had to learn it on the girls. Thank goodness for those nice girls who helped him not feel embarrassed and just kinda held it up so he could feel and hear!

I am now finally free for a week and a half before the H E double hockey sticks begins. I got 97% on my final and I can now go get my coding certificate- Yay!

Basement Chaos

This is what I came home to last night. Marker (permanent marker!) on my carpet, and our bedroom taken apart. The mattress and bed frame are even taken apart so we can't go to bed. Needless to say, I had to take a picture of the craziness. Now I just hope that marker comes out!

Cousin's Sleepover 2009

As you can see, we had tons of fun this last weekend! All the cousins came over for a sleepover (Tye and Lauren came for a few hours) on Saturday night. We had a fashion show of all my old prom dresses (and that one is NOT my wedding dress) and Jacob even had a few things for the boys to try on.
Later, before bed, we did some karaoke. Jacob had to get up early the next morning, and I guess he thought it would be fun to take pictures of us all sleeping.

Camping

So I know you all think I hate camping...but I don't. We went again this weekend with my family this time up to ol' Lodgepole. It's the place we've been going since who knows when (Vickie says 40 years). Apparently they were coming up here when my dad was a toddler so that just tells you how long we've been going :). Anyway, I love Lodgepole and being with family. Any chance I get to be with everyone I take! We had so much fun with everyone, especially Jacob, who spent all the time playing with the kids and helping them build rock houses and even a swing out of a rope! Kyra was in love with Jacob the whole time; I hardly got any time with him without her. We played cards and dice and sat and talked around the fire. We even ventured out to Strawberry to take a look. We mostly just waded and skipped rocks. It was so much fun and I loved every minute and I'm sorry we had to leave! Thanks everyone for making it so much fun for us and we hope we can come next year! In the mean time, maybe we should consider a cruise to get everyone together again...

Flaming Gorge

This last weekend we went to Flaming Gorge with Jacob's family. It was so much fun (other than the 3 1/2 hour drive to get there and back)! It rained Thursday and most of Friday but we stayed dry in our little cozy tent. We (well, not me) went cliff jumping on Friday during the 2 hour period of warmth and then again on Saturday. We also rode the Green River on Saturday which was really fun. I didn't get pulled in but Jacob sure did! We didn't take many pictures but here are a few of them.

WSU Nursing Scrub Top

Hey everyone I'm going to be starting nursing school up at Weber this fall. I'm looking for anyone who has a Weber State Nursing scrub top that they don't use anymore. I really don't want to have to pay $60 just for a scrub top so if you know anyone who has one, let me know!

Life Is Better Cruising!

For our one year anniversary Jacob surprised me and took me on a 3 night cruise. We went out of San Diego and cruised to Catalina Island and then had a day at sea. It was so much fun! I love cruises (this was #7 for me!) and I think it's one of the best ways to travel. Here are a few pictures of our fun!

1 Year

One year ago tomorrow Jacob and I will have been married for 1 year! I know that doesn't seem like a lot to you old folks but to Jacob and me it does. It went by faster than I thought! We get to go on a fun anniversary trip to an unknown destination...yep, that's right- we're not telling! Only 1 other person knows so don't fret about no one knowing if something were to happen. All I know is it will be a fun get away for the both of us. We'll post pictures when we get back!

Modest Swimwear

Do you know how hard it is to find a modest swimsuit for a good price? I do. It's impossible, even here in Utah. I have spent lots of hours this week trying to find a cute, affordable, modest suit. My old one is starting to wear out and although I can still wear it, I figured I would find a new one. The only 2 places who had reasonable prices were Costco and Old Navy. Old Navy had a sale where separates were 12.50 each and plus we had a 15% off coupon- score right? Wrong. Nothing was my size! And most of them were bikinis. I did find a few cute ones but once again they weren't my size. Costco has some cute Speedo ones for 22.50 which is a good deal considering the brand, but the one I had seen that I wanted wasn't there. Jacob and I spent hours online as well at the mall, Target, and even Walmart trying to find something modest and affordable. I think it's ridiculous that the modesty stores charge so much money, just for one piece! You would end up paying 70+ just for a swimsuit to be modest. It's ridiculous and no wonder why people wear bikinis- they're cheaper!!!

My Sundress

I finally finished my sundress! It's so cute! Of course Leo thought he'd like to model as well...

It's Not The Swine Flu

You can all calm down...the doctor figured out what I had...and it's a sinus infection. I've had to wear a mask at work since I found out and I've had ten people at least ask me (seriously) if I have the swine flu. Honestly people! Do you really think I'd come to work with the flu, let alone the swine flu?

Sweet Freedom!

I am officially done with school for two weeks. I finished my finals just before noon on Tuesday and then I went to have lunch with Jacob. After our picnic lunch at the park, we went to Coldstone since I had decided that's what I wanted for my out of school treat. My favorite is cake batter, but now they have CHOCOLATE cake batter- it was sooooo good! It was really rich though, so maybe next time I'll stick with the plain cake batter :) I get to start summer school on May 11 so that should be a joy, but it's only one class so it shouldn't be too bad.

School's Almost Out!

School is almost over- yay! I have about 5 more tests to take but they shouldn't be too bad. I'm so ready for summer and to have time with Jacob. I can't wait to have time to clean my house and organize and sew and garden! I am working 4 days a week now and it really sucks. I hate having to work at the hospital because it means you have to work weekends and holidays and all hours of the day because the hospital never shuts down. How stupid am I for choosing a profession that I'll have to work at the hospital for. Well, I will probably be downing my hours this fall anyway- I hope!

Easter 2009

We had a pretty good Easter. I was supposed to work but switched with someone so I could visit my family. We dyed eggs the night before and had lots of fun! We each got a little something...I got Twilight and Jacob got some wireless gamecube controllers for the wii so we can play Sonic!

I Love To Sew!

For those who do not know it, I love to sew. I started in 7th grade with the required sewing class and from there I really enjoyed it. I've made numerous quilts as well as about 3 prom dresses. I have made things for my house like pillowcases for couch pillows and curtains for windows. I also finished Jacob's baby blanket from about 27 years ago that his mom gave me. I really love this hobby. My next big project is a sundress. I used to have a blue and green one that I loved to wear in the spring and summer but it's too little for me now. I've got the material and I'm going to make it really cute with big buttons on it. I'll post a picture when I get done with it. After that, I have to finish a quilt that my grandma gave me. Each square is a girl with an umbrella in a different color dress. That's going to be my summer project!

Nursing School

Much to my dismay, Weber State has decided to let me be in their nursing program for the fall. I'm very disappointed that they cancelled the accelerated program and now I'll have to do an extra year...if I go. To those of you who gave me their opinion on the matter- thanks. But for now no more congrats or opinions, or my head will explode. Either that or I'll get really mad and yell at you. So I advise you not to bring any of it up or I will smack you!
NOTE: This has been moved to a permanent NO TALK status

O Leo!

Our kitten Leo has been so much fun. Lately his new favorite toy has been the box we got a few days ago that had can stackers in it. This morning he was hiding in it and scared Jacob.

SOCCER!

This Friday I got to play on a soccer team because Tricia was out of town. The team's name is Wicked so we were all in green, except the other team showed up in it too so we had to wear the grayish jersey over it. It was really fun but I'm not very good. Ness says I just need more practice. Here's a video of me playing. I got the ball a few times but I didn't pass or kick it very well so it got stolen a lot.

25 things about Brittany

1. I have a natural birthmark all over my body. The left half of my body hair is all blonde, and the right half is all brown. If my hair is parted down the middle, it is the same way.
2. I went to Bingham High school and I'm very proud of it. I still love to wear all my BHS attire around even thought I'm in college.
3. I have been married for 8 months and 1 week. If you can't do the math, it was May 28.
4. I have a mild form of OCD. When I was younger, I used to do this thing with my fingers and toes that started to make the skin on them raw and callousy. I don't do the finger thing anymore, but sometimes I am caught doing it with my toes.
5. 5 is my favorite number.
6. I have to do things in odd numbers. If I eat 2 oreos, I have to make sure I eat one more to make it an odd number or I will be bothered for a long time afterward. Also, I count stairs, and if there aren't an odd number of stairs, it bothers me (OCD).
7. I am currently very touchy about the subject of nursing as a career and/or having children. I will, and I swear I will, hit the next person who brings it up. (Unless it's my hilarious bro-in-law who I can't help but laugh at when he says it).
8. I attend Weber State University and have been doing so for the last 1 1/2 years. In December I got my associate's degree. Go Wildcats!
9. When I was little, I was in love with Bryon Russel ( he used to play for the Jazz). I used to pretend to make out with the basketball hoop because it was the only other thing my height.
10. My husband's name is Jacob Blake Jensen. In high school I had two friends named Jacob and Blake.
11. I was originally supposed to get married on August 2, but we made up our minds to go back on that decision, and it's been the best one we've ever made (so far).
12. I used to laugh really obnoxiously, but now my laugh is normal ( I think so anyway).
13. I don't know how old I was, but I used to have to fall asleep stroking someone's arm. It had to be a girl's arm, because they have soft hair and men don't.
14. I have given both of my brother's stitches. Unintentionally.
15. I love all my cousins, but there are a few in particular that I am very close to. (Savannah, Belle, and Jayben)
16. My family lives everywhere: Missouri, New Zealand, Virginia, and Utah.
17. I lived with my aunt and uncle in Ogden for 9 months while going to school. They helped me to meet my husband and to make sure I had friends. They are also some of the coolest people you will ever meet.
18. I played with barbies until I was 12. I also played house with my younger cousins til I was about 16. I still love playing house, but no one ever asks me to anymore.
19. I love babies, and anything to do with babies. I got to witness the birth of 2 of my cousins. I work on the mother/baby floor for this reason.
20. I am totally and completely obsessed with Batman. I have tons of Batman stuff in my house and I continue to get more.
21. I love the Disney princesses. 2 in particular: Ariel and Cinderella. I was going to be named Ariel because it came out the year I was born. I have lots of princess stuff too.
22. I am convinced one of my kids has to love Batman and one has to like princesses because I have too much room decor for them not to.
23. I am deathly afraid of spiders. Jake will tell you that. I'm also afraid of dinosaurs as well, even though they're extinct. I have the same nightmare every time I watch Jurassic Park. Again, just ask Jake.
24. I am also afraid of flying to some extent (my dad's a pilot). I get very anxious when we take off and during turbulence. I have a plane crash nightmare about once every 1-2 weeks.
25. I always wanted a little sister. I never got one til I adopted Brinana. I am also very close to my brother Tye, and love both my brothers and mom and dad tons.

Check out my cute baby! Yeah today I had to go to a breastfeeding class for my prenatal/infant nutrition class. Even though I was the only woman there not pregnant, I still got to practice my breastfeeding skills.

School...again

Once again school has begun. It's the start of spring semester and I'm enjoying my classes so far. I'm taking a few medical coding classes, a prenatal/infant nutrition class, a neuroscience class, and a Book of Mormon institute class. At first, coding was hard to understand, but now I LOVE IT! It's gotten simpler for me (hopefully it stays that way!). This semester hopefully shouldn't be too bad. Most of my classes are online with the exception of the neuroscience and the institute class. I get to go to a few community classes for my nutrition class which should be interesting. But...if I get too busy...the blog won't get updated as much...

First Christmas 2008

Our first Christmas together was a lot of fun. We spent Christmas Eve with Jake's parents and his brothers, Bryant and Trevor. We played games and had a fantastic turkey dinner and we didn't make it back to our own house til after 10. We started our own family tradition of Christmas Eve. It involves me, a violin, Jacob, and his singing voice. Plus we read Luke 2 together and I learned some new stuff that Jacob taught me. Christmas morning we woke up semi-early since I had to work that day at noon. We had been waking up all night so excited that we were tired. We got up and opened presents and even Leo got a stocking a present.

Brit got a lot of stuff for Christmas. She got a book, a blanket (it's really cold in our house), socks (everyone needs those), two violin solo books (Disney and Movie Themes), a big box of puzzles of little girls dressed up as butterflies, two Christmas Classics dvd sets (like the Rudolph and Santa Claus claymation) and a stocking full of goodies (including a set of Batman character Pez dispensers).
Jacob got quite a bit as well. He got a pajama set (the one he's wearing in the picture next to the tree), a Utah Jazz shirt, a ReAl Salt Lake shirt, a picture frame with Brit in it to put on his desk at work, levis, apron (and one matching for Brit as well), and a stocking full of fun stuff (he got more Hot Wheel's cars).

All in all it was a good first Christmas for the both of us, even though Brit had to work for part of it. We enjoyed a yummy breakfast at Jacob's grandma's before Brit went to work and then since the weather was bad, we waited to go down to Salt Lake til the next day. We made the trek up to Heber to find out M & M's (Jacob found his first).
